100: FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Even if you don't compost, you can separate the green scraps from your holiday meal leftovers, from the rest and toss them in your leaf bin. And you're recycling your plastic bottles and aluminum cans, right?
99: SPREAD THE HEAT
A well-positioned and slow-rotating fan can help ensure that heat from your radiator or heater doesn’t just drift up to your ceiling but spreads throughout your room, warming you toe to head. One great option is a heater fan, which sits atop woodstoves or gas room heaters and relies on a thermodynamic module to keep them running on heat alone.

Turn Down Your Water Heater Hot water heaters are huge energy and dollar guzzlers. Lowering the temperature on yours from 140 to 120 degrees will reduce your water heating costs by 6 to 10%.

Use Mulch– Mulch acts as a blanket to keep in moisture, and helps prevent erosion, soil compression, and weeds. Mulch can be made from readily available wood chips or leaf mold.

Report broken pipes, open hydrants and excessive waste. Don’t be shy about pointing out leaks to your friends and family members, either. They may have tuned out the dripping sound a long time ago.

Keep a container of water in the refrigerator rather than running tap water for a cool drink.

Recycle what you replace. If you get a new cell phone or computer, pass the old one on to someone who can use it. Some retailers, such as the big-box office-supply stores, participate in cell phone recycling programs to keep mercury, cadmium and lead out of landfills.

The City of Turlock would like to invite you to attend one of two identical, informational workshops presented by the Turlock Groundwater Basin Association. These workshops will provide updates on the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and the progress made by our region to comply with the new law. The identical presentations will be held on Wednesday, May 31at the Denair Community Center located at 3850 N. Gratton Rd., Denair, CA 95316. Presentation times are 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Topics discussed will include an update regarding local Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) formation activities to date and ways in which stakeholders can remain engaged and informed related future groundwater management and planning efforts.
