Thursday, October 24, 2024OVERNIGHT REPAIRS RESTORE SEWER SERVICE ON FARR STREET
(Turlock, CA | October 24, 2024) - Following a temporary loss of sewer service on a portion ofFarr Street between W. Main Street and Columbia Street, sewer service has now been restored to
the affected parcels, which included five residential homes and one business.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 23rd, damage to the six-inch sewer main was discovered
following an active construction project. A task force of City staff was immediately formed and
focused on the logistics of the necessary repairs and on providing communication and services to
those impacted.
After Acting City Manager Sarah Eddy determined that this situation constituted an emergency
subject to special contracting provisions, City staff coordinated with a contractor mobilized nearby
for a different City project. The contractor worked through the night to replace the approximately
300-foot section of the sewer main, and service was fully restored by 6 a.m. on Thursday. Trench
restoration and paving operations began immediately thereafter.
“I want to express my gratitude to our City staff members and the contractor who worked
through the night to get this done,” said Municipal Services Director Christopher Fisher. “Their
dedication and teamwork allowed us to minimize the disruption of sewer service caused by this
incident.”
“I am elated that our Municipal Services Director, Finance Director, and City staff worked
diligently to get the sewer line replaced. I am so thankful the disruption to our west side families
was minimal,” added District Two Councilmember Rebecka Monez.
The City is actively trying to determine the cause of the damage and will take appropriate steps to
minimize the negative impact of this incident.
