Adoption Rules
- California law requires that all adopted dogs and cats be spayed or neutered before leaving our Animal Shelter.
- If you are considering adopting an animal from the Turlock Animal Shelter we do require your rental agreement if you rent or sublet your property.
- We will not adopt to anyone under 18 years of age and adult children living with their parents must have written or verbal permission stating that they are aware that a new pet is going to reside at the address.
- We will not adopt an animal back to its owner to circumvent fines or penalties.
- You must visit with the pet prior to adoption. Exceptions must be approved by a supervisor.
- Turlock Residents must license any other dogs at the residence and be in compliance with animal ordinances.
- You do not have to be a City of Turlock resident to adopt from our shelter.
- The City of Turlock can refuse an adoption, and all applicants will be reviewed prior to placement.
- Animals are available to the public for adoption on a first come first served basis. We do not hold animals or have a bidding process. (exception for found pet with interested party placement)
- If you adopt a pet that is not going home the same day and the pet remains in our care and is identified by the previous owner, it must be returned to them per California State law.
- Not all animals that enter the shelter will be placed up for adoption. Medical restrictions, age and temperament may preclude any adoption possibilities.
